    Setting Your Torch

Torch Setting

I know that setting a torch may be difficult, what with all of the pressures and tips and information, but here is the standard method used in the American Aircraft Factories for decades:

Select torch Tip size for the job you are going to do.

Bottles are closed. Regulators are closed...screws out Torch open, 3 to 4 turns on both knobs.

Open oxy bottle...full Crack acet/fuel bottle until gauge goes up, then add 1/4 turn.   Hold torch against cheek and wind in FUEL reg screw until breeze is felt on cheek.

Light torch...AWAY from cheek please.

You should have a bushy yellow flame that emits NO sooty trails.

Add oxy with reg until flame is balanced neutral, then add both until flame is loud, and neutral.

This is the best wide-open flame setting for the tip you have chosen.

NOW...adjust torch down to the needed flame for the work. The pressures are now correct for that tip size, and you never needed to see the gauges except for the acet bottle on startup.
