Coincidently the job on the popular military aircraft (used by every major branch of the U.S. armed forces from the mid-1930’s through the end of WW2), began on the first day of the Iraq War.

The owner, Chuck Greenough, collector of Grumman Seaplanes, wanted to do one section by hand, to compare the time required for hand-work versus the Air Power Hammer.

Kent used the TM Air Power Hammer with the Large Reverse Die Set.

The material was 2024-0, .050″ thickness.

The owner shaped by hand and also used the wheel. Kent used the Air Power Hammer in conjunction with the wheel.

Both sets of parts looked beautiful when finished, but the parts made by hand took considerably more effort and time.
