Copper Welding vs. Soldering
Do you have any processes that you would like to share with a fellow sheet metal worker, presently I solder all my copperwork pieces but I am very interested in the welding process if possible.
Thank you, Ed
The Tinman Respondeth:
Ed,
Use deoxidized copper rod or wire and a high temp flux, for torch welding. Try "heat fence", a product
designed to hold the heat in a given area, or wet rags, because of the thermal conductivity of
the copper. I use a silver hard solder, too, a BAg 24.
TIG is good, too, but set the heat way up, with de-ox. copper filler, and use a thoriated tungsten.
