TM Workshop: Shannon, Ireland
Kent was hired by United Parcel Service (UPS) to hold a 5-day training session at their maintenance and repair facility in Shannon, Ireland in February 2002. The Shannon MRO serviced 727 Cargo jets and their crew needed training in skin repairs. Fifteen enthusiastic metal men participated in the metal shaping course. The course included 2 days on hand work, metallurgy, and form blocks, with the "form block" section covering practical methods of making door frame parts. Then the primary focus over the last three days was on shaping panels with the English Wheel. This included learning how to tune-up the machines and align the properly, as well as how to work out the shapes they were trying to achieve. Just a few months later the had mastered the forming skills learned in class and were making replacement skins for the 727’s in just a few hours.
