We offer several popular workshops on joining metal using the oxyacetylene torch including “Gas Welding Aluminum” and “Mastering the Torch – Welding, Brazing, and Soldering.” Knowing how to weld, braze, and solder with a torch is one of the most useful skills a metalworker can have. Many people are intimidated by the thought of moving from electric welders to welding with a torch believing it is difficult to learn. Kent uses teaching techniques he has refined over the past 20 years that are based on the way aircraft welding was taught to welders (mostly women) during WW2, who learned to weld using an O/A torch in just six hours. Our 3-day welding, brazing, and soldering course spends a day on each joining method.

Show-and-Tell

Class begins with a lecture and discussion on oxy-fuel torches and welding safety.
Demonstrating Techniques

Demonstrations of joining techniques are alternated with hands-on practice sessions.
Trying the techniques

After a discussion on fluxes, filler rods, and fuels, it is time to try out the techniques.
Practice

Class assignments are given based on each student’s skill level. Everyone moves at their own pace.
More practice makes perfect

Students are given the opportunity to practice until they feel confident to move forward.
