TM Standard Air Hammer Dies
We designed these dies based on 20 years of experience with this Air Hammer. We make these dies ourselves from high quality steel which is precision machined, hardened properly, tempered, and in some cases precision ground, for a perfect face or contact area. Every die we sell is U.S. industry-standard quality, is tested in our own shop, and is tried-and-true — guaranteed.
Basic Lower Die Set
This set includes one high crown, one low crown, and one flat lower die for roughing, stretching, and planishing. All dies are hardened steel. The low-crown and flat dies are precision ground to give small flat contact spots for smoother work. Can be used in conjunction with the roughing head, rubber head, small or large upper hammer dies. 1-5/8″ diameter.

Lower Large Flat Dies
These dies are ideal for raising or working gentle crowns in hood, door and roof skins, and for planishing flat panels. They should be used in conjunction with the Large or Small Upper Hammers. Each die has a precision-ground contact patch of a different diameter (1.30˝, 1.0˝, .80˝, .60˝). Choose the flat based on the thickness and hardness you are going to be shaping—smaller flats for harder thicker metals, larger flats for softer thinner metals.
Please note: These dies are an extension and redesign of our original Lower-Flat Die. While “fine-tuning” the hammer and experimenting with air motor selection, foot switches, and air pressures on a job shaping several large .040 aluminum skins/panels, Kent discovered he was able to “dial in” the smoothest finish, best contour and speed by simply changing the contact flat of the Lower Large Flat Die (small contact patch = harder hit, larger contact patch = softer hit) even when using the same air motor and air pressure. This was the solution for very fine “hit” adjustments he was wanting for making large thin panels and skins.
These dies are sold individually or as a complete set of four. If you already own our original Lower Flat Die (SMS-0144 w/ 1.0˝ contact area), you can purchase just the 3 new dies. Large Upper Hammer
This is a 2.5″ diameter flat-faced, hardened steel die that has been precision ground for flatness. It’s a great die for stretching crowns and flat surfaces, as well as planishing. You can use this for making door, hood and roof skins, or any large panels needing a low crown. It is also one of your two choices for an upper planishing die. Small Upper Hammer
This die is 1.6″ diameter and is hardened and precision-ground to have a flat working face. It is used for working into corners, and into tight spots where the large Upper Hammer will not fit. It also curves flanges when used in conjunction with the lower Flange Curving Die. This die is not good for large skins, but is one of your two main choices for planishing along with the Large Upper Hammer die.
