ERCO Extreme Pressure Lubricant
Recommended by ERCO for lubricating jaw/pressure block surfaces. Apply every 8 hours in steady usage, and less frequently with less usage. Lack of lubrication will promote premature wear/galling/pitting on rubbing surfaces.

ERCO Shrink Jaws Stipple and Bare

ERCO Stretch Jaws Stipple and Bare
The images above show ERCO shrink jaws and jaw surfaces with medium stipple and shrink and stretch jaws with surfaces bare. We can provide six (6) different grades of jaw surface finish for these ERCO shrinker-stretcher jaws: Super Satin (#000), Satin (#00), Extra Fine (#0), Fine (#1), Standard (#2), and Coarse (#3). We will ask you about "stipple" when you are ready to purchase jaws. Or, please tell us the alloy, thickness and temper of the metal you are working. This way we can help you set the "grip" of the jaws for ideal machine performance and best appearance of your finished product. Beautiful 2024 T3 .032 parts can be made with our Extra Fine (#0) finish. Conversely, .190 316 half hard would be best done with a Coarse (#3) stipple finish. Remember, you can go less coarse on stipple for stretching, but shrinking requires more force and, subsequently, more "traction."

These images are of the ERCO Stretcher jaws. If you notice there are no mounting holes on the base flanges of these jaws. All of these ERCO stretch and shrink jaws are brand new, and come to you undrilled. You will have to locate them properly in your machine and then drill the mounting holes.

ERCO Dovetail Pressure Blocks
We supply the ERCO “dovetail” pressure blocks for the 1447 DT machines.
The only variation from the traditional older “mortise style” is that the mortise mounting flange was changed into a dovetail for a more secure mount into the machine.

Adjusting the ERCO 1447 Kick Machine
The ERCO 1447 is not very adjustable since it is designed to be machined and assembled and used “as is.”
However, if the jaws feel “too tall” or “too short” and the foot pedal subsequently kicks in too far, or conversely, is too far out when the jaws are together, then there is one thing to look at (aside from a pedal arm that is cracked or bent), and that is the “compensator plate.”

Image of the 1447 with top cover removed and showing the ram with the lever knuckle on top of it. Across the ram is a hardened machined plate that is affixed in place. This plate is the “compensator plate” and can be had in different thicknesses, .315, .220 and .160.
A row of rams with installed plates and stacked plates, showing the need for jaw height adjustment, whether compensating for taller/shorter jaws – or when needing to open the jaws further, perhaps to get over an edge on the material being worked.
A row of rams and one with a thicker .315” plate.
