Sheet Metal Shaping for Automotive, Aircraft, and Art Metal
3-days: San Antonio, TX
(George Schroeder Studios)

Hosted by Metalmorphosis, a long-time commercial art metal shop, by master craftsman George Schroeder.

Students will be making patterns from 3D shapes, to analyze both size and where the shape goes. Then, transferring the information to metal blanks, and cutting the blanks out accurately follows next. Then, students will manipulate the surface area by stretching and shrinking, using both Pullmax and Air Power Hammers and hand techniques. Working the shapes accurately and efficiently, and using various corrective methods to do this are, of course, also covered. Welding and brazing, along with annealing, planishing and metal finishing round out the hot working and finishing section of the class experience.

Students are encouraged to bring projects, whether aluminum or steel. As a very interesting bonus, George will demonstrate forging on the big power hammers.

Cost: $335 per day We pool up for lunch each day, and it is always very good local cooking. This workshop proved to be very rewarding previously, and we are hoping to make it even better this time.

Pre-req: Open to all skill levels. Some familiarity with shop practices, hand tools and working safely is recommended. A knowledge of Oxy-acetylene is helpful.
